Getting you back in the conversation

We know how hearing challenges can impact daily activities, relationships, and mental wellbeing. That’s why we’re doing everything we can to break down the communication barriers.

So you can get back to what matters most—the conversations that enrich your life.

HeardThat’s Inspiration

Our founder and CEO Dr. Bruce Sharpe was inspired to create HeardThat because of his personal experience with a family member.

Dr. Sharpe’s father-in-law had worn hearing aids for years but often complained they didn’t do enough in social situations, particularly when there was background noise. He was increasingly withdrawing from conversations, family gatherings, and even his local card-playing group.

Our brains have an uncanny ability to pick out a voice in a noisy crowd–until we start to suffer from hearing loss. Even mild hearing loss can make distinguishing speech from noise an exhausting or even impossible task.

While hearing aids can work wonders, they don’t completely solve the problem of clarifying speech within noise.

Dr. Sharpe knew there had to be a better way.

Recognizing an unfulfilled need, Dr. Sharpe and Singular Hearing set off to create a new, smarter way to help us communicate and connect in noisy environments.

The result was HeardThat, a game-changing app in the world of speech enhancement.

A new solution

HeardThat is an innovative app that turns your smartphone into a sophisticated hearing-assistive device using machine learning. Instead of simply suppressing noise, it separates the noise and discards it, leaving speech that’s clear and easy to follow.

The app has gone on to win the What's Next Innovation Challenge Sponsored by AARP Innovation Labs and was selected as first runner-up in the What’s Next Business Plan Competition at the 17th What’s Next Longevity Venture Summit.
